Catherine H. Underwood, MBA CAE, has served as the executive director of the American Pain Society since 1999. Underwood is also the executive director of the National Association of Neonatal Nurses.

She has been with AMC for 11 years and has also served as executive director for nursing and multidisciplinary associations. Previously a healthcare executive, she has over 30 years' experience in service, healthcare, and nonprofit organizations.
Underwood is values driven and works collaboratively with volunteer leadership, using her financial acumen to achieve measurable outcomes that are tied to organizational goals. She is an accomplished leader in project management, strategic and tactical planning, and quality improvement methods, inspiring others through effective communication.
