Turning Knowledge into Profit
- As a result of surveying membership, data collection, and carefully weighing of viable options, an AMC client was able to tap a new source of revenue—its affiliated journal.
- AMC staff helped guide volunteer leaders through of an extensive process of deliberation and decision-making.
Comparative analyses can prove so enlightening—and, in the case of at least one AMC client, the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine (AAHPM)—also quite profitable.
After conducting in-depth analysis of its member needs, Academy finances, and national benchmarking data regarding medical publishing, AAHPM leaders realized that it was time to take a thorough look at their journal options. The leaders were in search of a partnership that would address both the clinical and business needs of the Academy. An outside journal consultant, secured by AMC staff, ultimately helped AAHPM realize both goals.
AAHPM's new journal has been well received by members and the increased revenues have funded expanded programs and services.
AMC staff guided its leaders through an extensive process of deliberation and decision-making. Armed with the right resources and defined processes, the AAHPM board was able to consider a complex array of options, make informed decisions, and ultimately facilitate a change in less than 10 months, just as the previous contract was slated to end.
