Kathryn CheceaEven after more than 20 years at AMC, Kathryn Checea uses the word fun multiple times when describing her work as director of sales and professional relations, whether it’s about her sales team’s annual retreat, improving exhibit booths, or even seeking CME funding for association events. Not only that, Kathy relishes a good challenge, which explains why she’s progressed from working on advertising and exhibits to developing strategic marketing plans and taking on major commercial support for healthcare summits, symposia, preconference activities, and new-product showcases.
“AMC has given me the opportunity to continually grow in what I enjoy doing. I love change, whether it’s enhancing an existing program, bringing new programs to the table, or surpassing a budget goal.” Most of all, she adds, she likes knowing that her work with healthcare associations eventually goes toward improving patient care. |

Kathy applies her talents of creativity, leadership, and fundraising to both her professional and personal lives. At home, she has served as president of a Parent-Teacher Organization, helped run school cultural arts programs, and, after many years, continues to raise funds for educational scholarships. At work, she enjoys brainstorming new marketing strategies for services and products—a talent she cultivated early in her career at various for-profit ad agencies—and working with committees on change, most recently on changing the title “corporate member” to “corporate council” to better reflect corporations’ role in one professional society.
