History

A management company chartered and accredited by the Association Management Company Institute, Association Management Center (AMC) was founded in 1974 by Art and Dagny Engle. Throughout the company’s history, AMC has built a reputation for providing high-quality strategic association leadership with the utmost integrity and for helping client partners Achieve What You Believe.

In 1998, Scott, Jeff, and Mark Engle took over management of AMC, with each overseeing specific areas of the business and working side-by-side with executive directors to ensure clients achieved their strategic goals. In 2018, the Engles formed a leadership team of senior-level association executives with expertise in diverse areas of the association field to lead the next generation of the company. The leadership team, which includes Dave Bergeson, Karen Kramer, Mike Norbut, Steve Smith, Sue Farrell Stock, and Hans Zetterstrom, collectively guides the strategic direction and growth of our clients and company and the professional development of our staff. In April 2020, both Scott and Jeff Engle transitioned to new roles on AMC’s board of directors and appointed Steve Smith to lead the company as CEO with the support of the leadership team. Today, Steve along with Dave, Karen, Mike, John, Sue, and Hans, collaboratively work to ensure that our clients’ missions, visions, and goals are at the heart and forefront of everything we do.

Throughout our history until today, at AMC, we have believed passionately in our client partners’ unique missions, and we’ve been dedicated to furthering their causes through collaboration, strategic leadership and vision. That passion allows us to develop long-term relationships that create mutual success and growth.
